So, like me, I’m sure you view MANY PDFs as well as Word, Excel, and Access files. Maybe you’ve also noticed that those applications (especially Acrobat) seem to load S-L-O-W-L-Y. Well, the culprit way be a little application called wisptis.exe. What is it? In a nutshell, it’s Windows’ way of helping you be “productive” by readying itself for use with a pen or tablet PC. How convenient? The problem is it CAN be quite a resource hog, and on a laptop (or machine with a slow hard disk), you’re still loading another app.
You may be thinking, “I want it gone! I don’t use a pen/tablet and don’t plan to, so I’m going to erase it”. I know that’s how I felt, so I’m including the instructions below on how to do that. They’re pretty simple . . . and by simple I mean overly-difficult-because-microsoft-forgot-that-we-like-FAST-computers-without-bloatware.
Download this zip file, unzip the byebyewisptis.reg file, run it, and then continue to the following step. Feel free to look at that file. It does a bunch of registry deletes.
Now delete wisptis.exe from your WindowsSystem32 directory. If you can’t, it may already be running. If so, open Task Manager and kill it.
Tada! A faster computer!
