I align with Kevin Rose, founder of Digg, in this plight. The DMCA is getting a bit to big for its own britches and something as trivial as this might be a tipping point.

I welcome debate on why I’m wrong…

So, like me, I’m sure you view MANY PDFs as well as Word, Excel, and Access files. Maybe you’ve also noticed that those applications (especially Acrobat) seem to load S-L-O-W-L-Y. Well, the culprit way be a little application called wisptis.exe. What is it? In a nutshell, it’s Windows’ way of helping you be “productive” by readying itself for use with a pen or tablet PC. How convenient? The problem is it CAN be quite a resource hog, and on a laptop (or machine with a slow hard disk), you’re still loading another app.

You may be thinking, “I want it gone! I don’t use a pen/tablet and don’t plan to, so I’m going to erase it”. I know that’s how I felt, so I’m including the instructions below on how to do that. They’re pretty simple . . . and by simple I mean overly-difficult-because-microsoft-forgot-that-we-like-FAST-computers-without-bloatware.

Download this zip file, unzip the byebyewisptis.reg file, run it, and then continue to the following step. Feel free to look at that file. It does a bunch of registry deletes.

Now delete wisptis.exe from your WindowsSystem32 directory. If you can’t, it may already be running. If so, open Task Manager and kill it.

Tada! A faster computer!

-Chris

Believe it or not, this makes 2 (two) posts in 2 (two) days. I’m blogging like I’m Doug Meade over here. Still on vacation, still enjoying myself immensely having nothing to do AT ALL. Nothing better than an agenda-less few days.

I’ve been studying a new technique for Bass Playing that was pioneered by Victor Wooten. He has incredible speed and I’m looking to integrate some of his style with my technique. You should check out some of his work ifi you get time and enjoy high-quality bass playing.

You can check out his tracks on my jukebox site. They’re in there somewhere, but I don’t think that I categorized them properly upon insert, so they may be tough to find. My jukebox runs on NetJuke, which is of course backed by php, mysql, apache, etc.

Let me know if you use it and have issues.

Man do I dislike Mondays, and before you lecture me about it, I know it’s a bad attitude and I’m working on it. It’s not that I HATE my job, it’s just that I like doing nothing so much more.

Well, what’s new you ask? Here’s something cool: http://www.desertcombat.com This is a mod (add-on software that utilizes another piece of software) for Battlefield 1942, which is an incredible EA video game. It’s basically a giant download that, once installed, allows you to VERY accurately engage in a simulated Desert Storm/Iraqi Freedom conflict. If you like PC video games, this is something that you will definitely enjoy. The best part? If you own BF1942, this mod is FREE.

Gotta love that.

Anyway, congrats to my friend Mark who was just blessed with his second son!! Congrats Mark!
